Avoid. Stick to acid and opium

The best known recipe in the Alice B. Toklas Cookbook is for hashish fudge. She got the recipe from Brion Gibson who had got it in Tangier where it would have ben known as mahjoun. It is of Berber origin. The problem with it is the problem of cannabis in any form - it turns the most delightful people into dull obsessives or insensate, giggling bores or borderline psychotics. Protracted exposure to the wretched stuff causes brain damage. Avoid. Stick to acid and opium

If you're planning to run onstage in a gorilla suit and surprise someone, always check first to see whether the person you're surprising has taken so much acid before the show that they are unable to differentiate between a man in a gorilla costume and an actual gorilla

I thought it would be funny if I hired a gorilla costume and ran onstage during their [Iggy Pop and the Stooges'] set  - you know, just adding to the general mayhem and anarchy. Instead , I was taught an important life lesson, which is this: if you're planning to run onstage in a gorilla suit and surprise someone, always check first to see whether the person you're surprising has taken so much acid before the show that they are unable to differentiate between a man in a gorilla costume and an actual gorilla. I discovered this when my appearance was greeted not with gales of laughter but the sight of Iggy Pop screaming and shrinking away from me in terror.

Do you take a lot of cocaine?

[Princess Alexandra] had sat politely through the performance, then come backstage, and got the conversation off to a flying start by smiling sweetly and asking, 'How do you have so much energy onstage? Do you take a lot of cocaine?'

Waylon said it would help

George Jones was probably the worst. I worked a show with him once and we were standing in the wings waiting to go on. He was acting a little peculiar, so I asked, "You been drinking, George?"
"Naw," he said. "I been working on my drinking problem."
"How's that?"
By way of an answer, he reached in his coat pocket, pulled out a handful of cocaine, and buried his nose in it, snorting. Then, when he'd fixed up that side of his nose, he went after the other.
"How's that working for you?" I asked
"Pretty good," he said. "Waylon said it would help."

On the other hand, we were on acid

You can't approach the White Panther party without a sense of humour .. I mean, on the one hand we were serious political revolutionaries who wanted to overthrow the government. On the other hand, we were on acid.

If Keith Richards is running your intervention, you're in trouble

Keith sincerely feared Gram [Parsons] was doing an unhealthy amount of heroin. It hardly needs saying that if Keith Richards is running your intervention, you're in trouble
